The short answer
Most bathroom remodels in the Oklahoma City metro take 3–7 weeks from start to finish: 1–3 weeks of planning and selections, then 2–4 weeks of construction. Your bathroom is only out of service during construction.
The two phases of a bathroom remodel
A bathroom remodel happens in two parts, and only one of them affects your daily life.
Planning and selections (1–3 weeks). This is where the scope gets settled, you choose tile, fixtures, and a vanity, and special-order items get ordered. Your bathroom works normally the whole time.
Construction (2–4 weeks). Demolition, plumbing and electrical, waterproofing, tile, and finish work. This is the only stretch when the bathroom is out of service.
A simple hall bath with the same layout lands at the shorter end. A primary bath with a large custom tile shower, frameless glass, or a layout change lands at the longer end.
What makes a remodel take longer
Selections that aren't final before demo. Changing tile or fixtures mid-project leaves the bathroom torn apart while new materials arrive.
Special-order items. Custom glass, specialty tile, and furniture-style vanities have the longest lead times.
Layout changes. Moving the shower, toilet, or vanity adds plumbing and sometimes framing work.
What's behind the walls. Older homes can hide rotted subfloor, outdated plumbing, or wiring that needs to be brought up to code.
Permits and inspections. Inspections have to be scheduled and passed before walls can be closed up.
How to keep your remodel on schedule
The biggest thing you can do is finish your selections before demolition starts. We have every client approve their finishes and we order long-lead items like custom glass during planning, so the bathroom isn't sitting open waiting on materials.
It also helps to plan a 10–15% budget contingency. Hidden problems are easier to handle quickly when the money is already set aside.
What if it's your only bathroom?
Tell your contractor up front. Work can be sequenced to restore basic function at night, a temporary vanity can be set up, or key milestones can be scheduled to limit disruption. More on that in our guide to living at home during a remodel.
